KA TO FACE ‘DRAGONS’ AS THEY REACH FINAL STAGES OF CHARITY BID
16th April 2012
We are pleased to announce that we are celebrating after reaching the final stages of a bid for funds from national organisation, The Funding Network (TFN), in conjunction with the Norfolk Community Foundation.
Founded in 2002, TFN was established to give individual philanthropists a chance to team up, to fund deserving social change projects. They are the UK’s first public open giving circle and have so far raised over £4 million for hundreds of local, national and international projects. To date, there are TFN groups in London, the south West, Leeds, Oxford, Manchester, Devon and even Toronto, and following a successful launch last year in which they joined forced with the Norfolk Community Foundation, TFN Norfolk have shortlisted five charities to take part in their next event, on Thursday 3rd May.
Keeping Abreast is well known for its colourful events, which celebrate life, as well as raising much needed funds for the charity and their annual ball and fashion show, featuring models who have either undergone breast reconstruction surgery or are considering this as an option following their diagnosis, are now firm fixtures on the Norfolk social calendar.
In 2010 we also launched a project to fund a specialist Breast Cancer Psychologist Clinic at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, which assists women who have been affected more physically and emotionally than others with their diagnosis. So far, the clinic has helped many individuals, all of whom felt that this is an invaluable service for breast cancer patients.
Thus far, the clinic has been financed by the charity’s fundraising endeavours, but in order to continue this beneficial service throughout 2012/13, the charity needs a further £7,500, which prompted them to submit their bid to TFN Norfolk.
Victoria White, National Fundraising & Development Manager, said :
“The selection process to get to the final five was rigorous. As well as an application document, we were asked to present our case to a panel, which was bravely undertaken by one of our founders, Anna Beckingham. We feel that, although every single breast cancer journey is unique to the individual, Anna’s story demonstrates how Keeping Abreast is vital for making a big difference to patients who benefit so much from the support and services we offer.”
The five charities will now go on to the live ‘Dragon’s Den’ event, which is being held on Thursday 3rd May in Norwich. During the evening, representatives from each of the charities will have the opportunity to pitch their case to the dragons after which there will be a Q&A session, all in front of a live audience. There will then be a pledging session, where the audience will be invited to donate money to the charities.
Anna Beckingham, Founder of Keeping Abreast, said :
“We are thrilled to have reached this stage in the funding bid. The Clinic offers such a vital benefit to breast cancer patients here in Norfolk, we feel it is vital to continue the service it offers, so to be in with a chance of being awarded the £5,000 available from TFN Norfolk is wonderful.”
