VIP Visitors to Norwich Support Group
24th July 2012
24th July 2012
Keeping Abreast - Norwich were honoured last week to have a number of visitors to their Support Group.
After some initial work by the Development Team, a group of ladies from Bedford Hospital visited Norwich to see how a Keeping Abreast Support Group ran with the hope of possibly setting up there own group in Bedford.
They listened to the talk on research by Mr Andrea Figus, then some of the ladies went and saw how our 'flashing' sessions worked. Alison Borromeo, Breast Reconstruction Nurse at Bedford Hospital said "having a patient led support group is so important to both the women who are undergoing surgery and also to us professionals because as much as we can help patients with the medical side of things we can not advise them in the same way that someone who has been through a similar experience can."
The ladies have already got an number of volunteers on board and they hope to be able to take their first steps to organising their own group in the next couple of months.
Secondly, it was great to see Jacky Robertson our Chairperson from Bristol who had a couple of days in Norfolk to come along to the Support group and catch up with the Development Team.
Jacky added "it has been really good to come and visit the girls in Norwich to get some hints and tips on how they run their group. It so inspiring to see so many women getting something out of coming to the group and i'm now looking forward to getting back and seeing what else we can do in the South West"

Adrian Completes 1000 mile adventure!!
29th June 2012
29th June 2012
Congratulations Adrian!!!!!
After cycling 1000 miles around 4 of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean, Adrian Dunham, owner of The Gallery and avid supporter of Keeping Abreast, has finished his epic challenge and is looking to have raised around £10,000 for KA
Adrian took some time out to summarise his experience for us;
"No more bike stories, just a summary of my adventure,1000 miles cycled,4 islands and 1400 miles covered, sore feet, aching legs, stiff back, bit of sunstroke, loss of weight, buttocks that could crack walnuts, I would not change anything for the experience I have just had.
Words cannot express the support shown from you and the Keeping Abreast team has been fantastic, especially when I needed it most. It was not easy but I cannot thank the people I have met on this journey enough, their honesty and generosity has been fabulous.
However the fundraising still goes on, and I had the plesure of meeting the Kaiser chiefs in our hotel. They were incredibly complimentary and having told them my story, they donated a good sum of money and put me and Mandy on their guest list at Majorca rocks!
Flying back to UK on Friday, back to what I hope I know best and looking forward to all the things I seem to take to much for granted.
Somebody asked me how much I hoped to raise,I had no expectations but I certainly did not expect to raise as much as we have done, near to £10,000! A big thankyou,x"
From everyone at Keeping Abreast we just want to say a congratulations and thank you to Adrian. This was a huge challenge and so many people with benefit from the generosity of you and all your sponsors.
