About our group

Our support meetings held in Cheltenham are informal, relaxed and open to those who wish to gain more information about breast reconstruction as an immediate procedure after a diagnosis of breast cancer or due to a hereditary risk. Alternatively, it may be that you are considering breast reconstruction after a previous mastectomy.

There is the opportunity to meet and talk with other women who are considering, undergoing or post-reconstruction. Family and friends are very welcome plus there are always refreshments and often a speaker and a raffle.

If more convenient for you, meetings are also held in Bristol on Wednesday evening, details of which you can find here

One of our volunteers, Jacky, has been speaking about her experiences regarding her own breast reconstruction to WI groups around the South West.  Here are some comments from a recent visit:

“I don’t need tell you how very much your talk was enjoyed by all, it will certainly interest other WIs. It opened our eyes to so much about Breast Cancer, things we could never have known had you not agreed to visit us.
I hope the success of your visit to us will give you the confidence to repeat your presentation at other groups, although you have such a strong message to give, and you do it with such humour and knowledge, that it’s difficult to believe you could have been nervous.”

Want to help?

As a small group, we are on the look-out for a number of volunteers to join us to help run the group so we can offer support to more women considering and undergoing breast reconstruction.  Ideally, we are looking for some previous reconstruction patients who would be willing to talk to others about their journey, and also some individuals to help with the administrative side of things too.  If you might be interested please contact the Keeping Abreast Head Office on the number or email above.

Nick of Time:

As well as supporting women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and looking to have an immediate or delayed reconstruction, Keeping Abreast also supports those women looking to have elective reconstruction surgery due to the discovery of a breast cancer gene.

This support is provided by our sister group ‘Nick of Time’. It is likely that there will be elective surgery patients at your local group, but if you would like specific information or further details please contact Nick of Time.
